A little bit of Autumn Exotica!

Funny how often you see someone standing next to a feature plant and having their photo taken! So we thought we would join in the hords of visitors lined up for photo opportunities at Sheffield Park this past weekend! What do you think?!

Bo and Ness - Alitura Landscape and Garden Design

And yes, it was an educational trip, honest!

Every year, thousands of visitors flock to Sheffield Park to witness the exotic autumnal display it provides. Although we have Capability Brown to thank for the initial design of the landscape, it is really  Arthur Gilstrap Soames we have to thank for providing us with the spectacular colour we witness today. Soames was involved in the gardens in the early part of the 20th Century and he is the one responsible for introducing the many maples and  Nyssa sylvatica (my new favourate tree!) that are repeated throughout the whole garden.

A visit to the gardens at this time of year may involve rubbing shoulders with all and sundry as it does get quite busy, but it is well worth the trip. And you can step off the main route and relax in the autumn sunshine in relative peace and quiet, just for a moment or two, before an enthusiastic amature photographer stumbles over and starts snapping pics of wifey standing by a maple tree!

Sheffield park is great in spring and summer, isn’t it?
You both look marvellous against the autumn blaze.

Hi Jackie, yes, Sheffield Park is still worth a visit at other times of the year; however, as it is a landscape garden it is mainly planted with shrubs and trees and so provides a truly spectacular display for a short time in Autumn. We think is well worth a visit right now – if only the sun would pop back out again!
