Garden with a View

This property on Cuilfail in Lewes had the most amazing garden view but being so exposed it was difficult to appreciate. This site is very windy! Unusually, it was the front garden that was to have the main terrace, but on a private estate, you don’t really feel overlooked and instead are part of the community. The garden design was to create a sheltered space without compromising on the views.

In the Garden Redesign existing concrete slabs were reused as the clients were keen to retain some of the traditional features from the original house build. We created interest with brick detail sourced from a local brick-makers, that also tied the terrace back to the house. Large windows were complimented with glass balustrading, retaining a seamless view of the whole of Lewes and the South Downs.

The clients were able to make use of the garden in the windiest of weather – and even into winter – as the glass balustrading was so effective in creating a sheltered space. It has transformed how much they use the garden.

This garden design included shady planting, a hot summer border, and a shrub border.
