This riverside garden needed a contemporary garden design to reflect the modernest nature of the building. It also needed to blend seamlessly into the naturalistic landscape beyond. The garden was a blank canvas with great views out to the river in Lewes, Sussex.  Due to a floodwall, the house is raised and therefore the clients also required the garden to create interest when looking onto it. It also needed to compliment the neighbours garden which was also designed by Alitura.

An Oak boardwalk runs through the site in a scooping curve leading  to a circular seating area at the bottom of the garden. Several steps lead you up a slope to a bench seating area which takes in the views towards the white cliffs of Lewes. The clients wanted the space to be purely left for planting so no grass was allowed,  a small raised bed vegetable area was created and the rest was left for a naturalistic planting style. The vegetable beds come of the boardwalk near to the house in a more rectilinear design complimenting the neighbouring design. The same materials were used in both the designs to harmonize the two gardens.
